The continued, unusually warm weather meant that I was feeling brave enough to let the chicks put their tiny toes on actual ground today. The snow is receding around the house somewhat and so some patches of dirt and grass have become visible.
Truly, the chicks were outside for 3 minutes, at the maximum. I recorded a video of them for 1 minute, let them run around for a couple seconds, and then whisked them back inside under their heat lamp.
I could hear some birds overhead which was starting to make me worry. I don’t know if hawks make any sounds but I wasn’t going to chance leaving the chicks out for too long. The chicks had lots of fun for the couple brief minutes they got to explore outside. As the chicks continue growing, and providing the weather stays pleasant, no doubt they’ll get outside again for more exploration!
